Young Carers have specific needs

Many Young Carers tell us that they often feel:

  • Stressed and upset

  • Tired

  • In need of a break

  • Isolated from friends and family

  • They have no time for homework and struggle at school

  • They have no time to see their friends

  • Ashamed and embarrassed

At Carers Link Lancashire we support Young Carers from the age of 6 to 18 years of age. As mentioned, the support we offer is tailored to the individual needs of the Young Carer but also involves a whole family approach.

Level of support

This support is based on a 'Tier' system: A tier is a level that every young carer is allotted dependent on how much support is needed.  Young Carers will be given tier 1, 2 or 3 when they become part of the project.  The amount of support and activities that are offered will depend on what tier they are in. Not everyone who is part of the project will be offered all of the activities. For more information about the tiers click here.

The types of support we can offer:

  • Free and confidential information

  • Someone to talk to

  • Signposting to other services

  • Information and training about illnesses and disabilities

  • Free quarterly magazine

  • Drop in sessions

  • Support in school
