The kinds of information we collect

Carers Link Lancashire collects different types of personal data directly from or about you, but always with your consent. This can include your name, address, telephone number, email, date of birth, data relating to your personal and caring situations, gender, sexual orientation, medical data (if pertinent to the activities or services), and some financial data if you are giving us a donation or receiving grant support via us. You may provide us with any or all of this data online, at an event, via a leaflet or over the phone.

 

If you are using our website, Carers Link Lancashire will use the information it collects about you to help it understand more about how the website is used. Some anonymous data such as IP addresses, pages visited and time spent on the website is also collected. This information is used by Carers Link Lancashire to compile traffic statistics to enhance its understanding of how visitors use the website and to help it improve this service.

 

When you make a donation you are rerouted through to JustGiving which is a separate organisation and has a privacy policy of its own. Please ensure you read this before making any donations; Carers Link Lancashire is not liable for any issues pertaining to a 3rd party website.

Carers Link Lancashire is committed to protecting your privacy and does not capture and store any personal information about individuals who access this website, except where:

  • users voluntarily choose to register with Carers Link Lancashire, either directly or through a 3rd party; or

  • users make a donation to Carers Link Lancashire

 

When any such information is supplied to Carers Link Lancashire, the charity is legally bound by the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation to ensure that such information is only used for the purpose for which it was requested and also to ensure that data is held securely. No personal data obtained via the website is used for direct marketing.

 

Carers Link Lancashire also takes appropriate measures to ensure that any personal information provided is kept secure and only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was provided.

 

Consent

When registering with Carers Link Lancashire we will ask you information about yourself and limited information about the person you care for (as mentioned in the ‘The kinds of information we collect’ section). Consent will ALWAYS be obtained which can be written or verbal. When providing information such as telephone numbers and an email address, we will only do this after we have explained that these will be used only to contact you about your caring role, or to receive our monthly e-bulletin or quarterly e-magazine.

 

We will not contact you for marketing purposes, to sell goods or services nor will we disclose personal data to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

 

If, as part of your caring role, a referral is made to a 3rd party to support you or the person you care for, we will ALWAYS obtain consent which can be written or verbal.

 

We may also share your data in the following circumstances:

  • Where we must comply with laws such as those for national security, or criminal investigations

  • Where we must undertake due diligence, to be sure we are not being used as a channel for criminal activities

  • If we believe a person’s safety is at risk

 

Your Choice

We maintain contact with our carers via our quarterly magazine as a minimum. However it is always your choice as to whether you want to receive information about our work, how we can support carers and the fundraising we undertake. If you do not want us to use your personal information in these ways please let us know.

 

You may opt-out of our electronic communications at any time by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the end of our monthly e-bulletins or sending us an "opt-out" email.

How do we store and dispose of this information and for how long do we keep it?

Carers Link Lancashire takes appropriate actions to make sure that the data we hold about you, whether that is on paper or electronically in a computer file or database, is stored securely. We will only hold this data for as long as it is necessary for the purposes for which it is provided to us. We will dispose of unnecessary personal data using secure deletion methods (electronic) or shredding. We encourage all our carers to notify us of any changes in their caring role, or contact information, so that we can keep our records up to date and accurate.

 

How you can manage or delete the information we have about you

Your rights regarding the data we hold and collect about you are outlined in the data protection policies and legislation of the United Kingdom and, from 25 May 2018, the European Union. These include: the right to access, edit and update, request the deletion of, and restrict the processing of your personal information, the right to object to the collection of your personal data and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority about your personal information.
